Whether you live in Chicago or you’re a visitor, you have no doubt heard about the city’s sports culture. You might even know that the Chicago Bulls dominated basketball in the 90s, with Michael ‘Air’ Jordan leading the team. Or you might know that the NHL’s Blackhawks have won two Stanley Cups in 2010 and 2013. The Chicago sports culture is one that is intense and loyal. In fact, it’s one that has been recognized by Sporting News three times as the “Best Sports City” in the world.

The city’s sports culture is also one that is changing. The Chicago Bears haven’t won a Super Bowl in more than two decades and their attendance started falling in 2017. The NHL’s Blackhawks have won two consecutive Stanley Cups, and the NFL’s Chicago Bears have lost all six of their home games so far this season. While attendance is still up 4% from 2021, it has declined since 2017. Whether you’re a fan of the Bears, Blackhawks, or any other team, it’s important to understand that the sports industry is changing.
