Despite the Bears’ bad start this year, Chicago’s sports fans still have a lot to cheer about. For instance, Chicago’s population is nearly three million. And it’s the third largest city in the United States. The city also ranks as one of the top 10 sports cities in the world according to TSE’s International Sports Cities Ranking. And the Cubs and Blackhawks are providing funding for athletic programs in the city.
So why is sports in Chicago so popular? One answer is that Chicagoans are known for being a “melting pot” of cultures. Another is that the city is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and the sports culture is a part of the city’s appeal.
