Considering the number of athletic teams and amateur leagues that call Chicago home, it’s no surprise that the city is one of the most sports-crazed cities in the country. It’s no surprise that the city has made TSE’s annual list of sports cities every year since 2012.

Chicago is no slouch when it comes to sports. In addition to the NFL’s Chicago Bears, the city has a number of professional, semi-professional and amateur sports teams to choose from. The Chicago Cubs, meanwhile, are one of the premier franchises in their league and generate over $600 million in annual revenue for the state of Illinois.

Chicago’s sports culture is lauded as one of the most cosmopolitan in the country. This is especially true since it has been dubbed a “melting pot” by sports fans around the country. In fact, the city has the third-highest number of sports fans in the nation, according to census figures.

The city is home to the first Heisman trophy winner Jay Berwanger, and has been named the best sports town in the world three times. This has not tempered the city’s sports fanatics, which is why there’s a plethora of professional and amateur teams competing in a variety of leagues and tournaments.

One of the best places to experience Chicago’s sports culture is to attend a game at Soldier Field, which is the city’s largest football stadium. This is a great way to experience the city’s sports magic while getting in a little exercise.
