A wake and vigil for basketball star Ben Wilson was held at Simeon Career Academy three days after he was gunned down in November 1984. As CBS 2’s Phil Walters reports, Mayor Harold Washington was among those in attendance.
Chicago News Sports Events Culture
Whether you’re a fan of professional sports, amateur sports or sports in general, there’s something that’s appealing about Chicago’s sports events culture. In fact, the city has been named the “Best Sports City” three times by Sporting News.
In addition to sports, the city has world-class museums, parks, and public transit, making a trip to the Windy City a pleasant experience. The Chicago sports culture is also centered on a deep and loyal fan base. This is a very important aspect of sports, as it can incite a lot of passion and joy. Sports can be used to raise money for good causes, help children get involved, and bring communities together. Sports can also create jobs and increase the local economy.
One of the most popular sports in Chicago is hockey. The Chicago Blackhawks have won two Stanley Cups in 2010 and 2013. In fact, in the years between 1999 and 2010, the Chicago Bulls were considered the best basketball team in the world, led by the likes of Michael “Air” Jordan.
Another popular sport in Chicago is football, and many pro teams play here each week. The Chicago Bears have had a poor start to the season, losing all their home games so far. But the Bears have not won the Super Bowl since 1985. Their fans are fiercely loyal, and the video of Jay Cutler burning his jersey last week wasn’t going to make much of a difference in attendance.
