Sports Events Culture in Chicago
Among the millions of people who live in Chicago, sports are a passion. The city is home to more than a few professional sports teams, but it’s also home to dozens of amateur teams, as well. Some of the sports that are most common in the city are basketball, ice hockey, football, soccer and baseball. Some of the more popular teams include the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Cubs.
For a city of its size, sports are a big business. The Chicago Blackhawks have won two Stanley Cups in the last two decades, and the Chicago Cubs are one of the premier baseball teams in the country. In fact, the city has a storied baseball history, having played in the World Series on two occasions.
While the Chicago Bears might not be putting their best foot forward in the 2014 season, there’s no doubt that sports have played a part in their rise to prominence. The city has seen its share of ups and downs, but it’s not hard to see the enthusiasm on display at any Chicago sporting event.
While no one has been able to pinpoint a specific sport as the city’s most popular, there’s no doubt that fans of all sports are passionate about their teams. Aside from the teams themselves, sports have been credited with providing millions of dollars to local charities. Among the more notable charities are the Festival of Hope, a global youth mentoring program, and the Chicago Children’s Hospital.
