Brittney Griner will be home for the holidays after being released in a one-on-one prisoner swap for international arms dealer Viktor Bout. The exchange is coming under scrutiny by some as another American, former Marine Paul Whelan, remains in Russian custody. CBS 2’s Marybel Gonzalez reports.

Sports Events Culture in Chicago

Whether you are a diehard sports fan or a sports geek, it’s hard not to notice the amount of money being spent on the latest and greatest sports equipment. From the NHL to the minor leagues, Chicago is a sport lover’s paradise. Not to mention, Chicago is one of the few cities in the US that has not one but two major league teams. For that matter, Chicago is also home to one of the largest concentrations of sports enthusiasts in the country.

Several of the city’s finest sports fans have voiced concerns about the latest casino on the horizon. But for all the negatives, there are some positives to be had. The city has been named as one of the best places to live in America. Among other things, the city has a number of world-class colleges and universities. In fact, there are more than four hundred universities in the Greater Chicago area alone. So, the next time you’re in the city, make sure to pay homage to its sporting prowess.

The best part is, you don’t have to leave the city to indulge in its most enticing pursuits. Aside from the plethora of museums and art galleries, the city boasts several world-class sports franchises and venues. In fact, the aforementioned Chicago Bears have even established an ongoing partnership with the Chicago White Sox. That’s not to mention, the city is home to several amateur sports teams worthy of a top notch athletic program.
