Considering the number of professional sports teams in the Windy City, it’s no surprise that the sports enthusiasts of Chicago have a thing for a plethora of competitive and friendly competition. The city boasts a healthy amateur sports scene. From football and hockey to billiards and basketball, the city has all the bases covered. During the heyday of the NBA, the city sported a number of championship minded franchises. The most successful of these was the Chicago Bulls, which dominated the league during the 90s. The city has been undergoing a renaissance of its own in recent years, with sports aplenty.
A few months ago, the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Cubs signed a new three year contract extension, which will allow the storied ballclubs to keep slugging it out for the next several seasons. The city has also been wooed by the NFL’s playoffs, which has brought a new wave of feisty fans to the Windy City. The city has also been a home to numerous sporting events such as the annual Chicago Fire tournament.
A little more research into the city’s enviable sporting history will reveal a number of notable moments. Among these, the city’s first professional sports team is the aptly named Chicago Bears. As one might expect, the team has a storied history, including two Stanley Cups and an appearance in the Hall of Fame.
