Chicago News – Sports Events Culture
One of the best things about living in Chicago is the city’s venerable sports culture. From the storied Chicago Bulls to the more cult like Chicago Blackhawks, the city has played host to some of the world’s most iconic sports teams. While they may have come and gone, the sport has stood the test of time, earning the city a place in the pantheon of renaissance men and women. It’s also been named the best sports city for two years in a row.
The sports industry is one of the more lucrative industries in Illinois and beyond, generating some $600 million in revenue annually. Its a thriving sector with a plethora of jobs to boot. While sports fans may be a choosy lot, they’re a loyal bunch. With a bevy of major and minor league sports teams, the city boasts a healthy contingent of amateurs and pros alike.
Despite the city’s burgeoning sporting activities, the area has seen its share of snafus. The aforementioned Jay Cutler jersey burning incident wasn’t the only high-profile sports mishap to hit the Big City. There’s been a number of other incidents, including a major league football game in which the referees forgot to re-start play. And while it’s not impossible to make a case that Chicago sports have a dated reputation, the city is a well-kept secret among the sports elite. And while a recent snafu with the storied Chicago Cubs is likely to tarnish the city’s sports reputation, the city still boasts a robust fan base.
