In a nutshell, the Chicago sports scene is all about loyalty and fun. The Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, and Cubs have each won a few major sporting events in their day. And with the city’s robust economic base, sports-related jobs are not hard to come by. In fact, in 2013, sports in Illinois generated 456,000 jobs. This number is expected to rise, as well as sports-related tourism and entertainment revenues, thanks in part to the Chicagoland Sports Commission.

As a matter of fact, the most famous sports team in the city is the Chicago Bulls, with their NBA basketball franchise having dominated the court in the 90s. Moreover, the city also has a storied NHL hockey team. As a result, the city has a thriving sports culture that has garnered the city several awards and accolades.

For example, the best sports city in the world has been awarded to Chicago, and the illustrious City of Gold has won it in two of the past three years. In addition, the burgeoning sports industry has helped transform the city into a tech mecca, resulting in numerous companies opening offices here and abroad. The sports industry has even played a role in the local economy, generating about $600 million in revenue for the state annually. It is no secret that the fans are big time. Hence, it’s no surprise that the best sports city award has been awarded to the city whose name is emblazoned on the front of the Chicago Tribune.
