The city of Chicago’s sports culture is no doubt one of a kind. For starters, it’s home to the NBA’s Chicago Bulls, two Stanley Cups and a slew of other professional sports teams. Aside from the obvious, the city is a hotbed of sports fanatics. Despite the competitive nature of the local football scene, the city’s fans are fiercely loyal. This is a boon for sports nut businesses, especially those that don’t mind a little schadenfreude.
The city also has its share of sporting mishaps. For example, the Chicago Blackhawks were one of the few teams in the league to win a game. However, a quick perusal of the Chicago Tribune archives will reveal a longstanding tradition of a plethora of sports related mishaps. While most of these are mundane, the city’s sports fans aren’t too shabby in their own right. One of the more entertaining moments occurred on Halloween, when the Boston Bruins made a surprise stop at a local hospital. Luckily, the team managed to avoid any actual injuries.
Nevertheless, the city’s rabid sports fans haven’t exactly been kind to the area’s economy. Sports related aficionados will be well advised to shop around, despite the recent renaissance in the Windy City. From the NFL’s storied Red Wings to the aforementioned Cubs, Chicago sports fans have a lot to choose from. And when the going is good, the city’s sporting prowess is no doubt one of the best in the world.
