Its Blackhawks hockey team has twice won the Stanley Cup, and is an important part of the local economy. The city’s vibrant sports culture and history offer fans many ways to engage in the community and get involved.

The rise of sports has contributed to the growth of sports writing. Several sports publications have established sports desks staffed by specialized journalists. Most of these pages can be found at the back of the newspaper, and they usually offer ample information about athletes and sporting events. However, sportswriters have tended to focus on the anticipation and postmortem analysis of major sporting events. Many newspaper proprietors have learned that sports stories are read more than the paper’s other articles.

As part of the globalization process, sports development has become increasingly global. In the past, sports was dominated by European and North American cultures. These cultures tended to be dominated by white, male elites, and may be declining in strength. However, the rise of Asian and African cultures are challenging traditional masculine notions of sports.
