Having a few professional and collegiate teams within the city limits is a plus. The city is home to several minor league teams as well. A quick check of the box score shows that Illinois generates a healthy six billion dollars in revenue every year from its professional sports franchises. As for the teams themselves, the Bears have had a crappy start to the season. The Chicago Cubs have sputtered in the playoffs while the NHL’s Blackhawks have a pair of Stanley Cups on their shelf.

The city is also home to the Stateville prison which houses the largest postsecondary programming in Illinois. In short, the city is a sports lover’s paradise. While the city may not be known for its baseball or football teams, it does house a plethora of teams in other sports such as hockey, lacrosse, hockey leagues and even some college teams. One thing is for certain, the sports fans are fiercely loyal. In fact, the city has a plethora of sports fans who have been known to swarm the Soldier Field marquee in a frenzy for the first game of the season.

One of the best parts of being a sports fan is that you get to hang out with your team after the game is over. Some fans even take part in the annual ‘do a lap around the stadium’. There’s also the good old fashioned networking and fun to be had. The city also boasts a plethora of bars and pubs if you’re looking for a more laid back setting.
