Sports Events Culture in Chicago

Whether it’s a championship basketball game or a round of golf, the sports industry in Chicago has had a hand in the city’s renaissance. In fact, it’s one of the five largest sports markets in the country. In 2010, Chicago generated nearly $1 billion in revenue for Illinois. And that’s not counting the many millions that go into the local economy.

The city is also home to one of the largest sports fanatic populations in the nation. Not only is the city home to a storied NHL franchise, but it also hosts an extensive number of minor league baseball and football teams. The Cubs, for example, generate $600 million a year in revenue for Illinois. This is more than enough to make it a top-tier sports town, and with a population of just under 3 million, it’s one of the largest in the country.

It’s not surprising that the city has made the TSE’s list of the world’s best sports towns for the last two years. The city is also home to many notable sports teams and events, from the storied Chicago Blackhawks to the illustrious Chicago White Sox.

The Chicago sports scene has received more awards and accolades than most. In fact, the city has received several of the best sports related accolades, including being named the best sports town in America for the last six years in a row by Sporting News. It’s also home to the most major sports event of all time, the Maccabi Games.
