Young artists, who are patients at area hospitals, are taking part in the Snow City Arts program showing off their work not often seen by the public. CBS 2’s Suzanne Le Mignot took a look at the organization inspiring young people with difficult health challenges through the arts.

Sports Events Culture in Chicago

Throughout history, sports have been used as a form of entertainment, social gathering, and an indicator of prestige. In the 20th century, the advent of the global economy, the cosmopolitan culture, and the transnational corporation made sports a more international phenomenon. Modern sports are now marketed as symbols of power, prestige, and pleasure.

Chicago is home to a wide variety of sports teams. They range from amateur sports to professional. They include ice hockey, basketball, football, tennis, volleyball, soccer, and swimming. Many of the amateur teams are well-known and have appeared on the national stage. Some of them have been around for decades. Some have even been ranked among the top professional sports teams in the country.

There are also major sporting events that take place in the city. Chicago has hosted the NBA playoffs in 2010 and 2012, the NFL playoffs in nascent days, and the World Series in 2009. Other sports teams that play in the city include the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago White Sox, and the Chicago Bulls. These teams are responsible for funding athletic programs in the city. The Cubs have a history of supporting youth athletic programs.

As a result of the sports culture in the city, Chicago has earned a number of awards. Some of these awards include a spot on TSE’s list of the world’s top sports cities for two years in a row. Others include a spot on the sports-related list of the Maccabi Games.
