Throughout history, sports have played a huge role in the formation of society, as well as the development of fandom. With the rise of the mass media, we are able to witness a constant transformation in the presentation of sports in the media. For example, the early 19th-century boxing reports transformed sports coverage into dramatic accounts. And, even today, journalists are enthusiastic about probing sports scandals.

As the twentieth century progressed, the culture of modern sports grew into a global phenomenon. In the process, sports became marketed as symbols of power, prestige, and pleasure. In turn, sports entrepreneurs began to view the mass media as a means to bring interest to spectators. This has led to an accelerated pace of change, with the sports industry becoming more competitive.

The city of Chicago, for instance, has hosted several major sporting events in the past. It is currently a host to professional and amateur teams in a number of sports. It also has its own sports culture, which has earned it a number of awards. Moreover, the city has been included in the list of top sports towns for two consecutive years. This is a testimony of the great renaissance that the city has undergone.

As sports have become part of the wider cultural landscape, it is important to understand how the evolution of sports has been shaped by the globalization of culture and economy.
