Whether you are a sports buff, a Chicago resident or a transplant, there are plenty of reasons to make it a priority to occupy the city for the next few years. A major reason for this is that the Chicago metropolitan area is home to a number of sports teams and events. From minor league baseball to the storied Chicago Blackhawks NHL franchise, there is no shortage of sporting activity in the Windy City. In fact, sports are big business in Illinois, contributing more than $340 million to the economy in 2010, with an estimated 456,000 jobs created as a result.
The city also boasts several notable amateur sports teams. One of the best is the aptly named Chicago Bears, which have a longstanding partnership with the Chicago White Sox. Aside from the actual game, the Bears have been known to sponsor a variety of events in the community including a Nerf football program that prepares young kids for the high school game. The most interesting aspect of this particular athletic endeavor is that the team has teamed with the local high school to fund scholarships for promising athletes.
The best part about the sports business is that the games are always a fun and engaging experience for everyone involved. Despite the numerous awards and accolades bestowed upon the Chicago sports community, a great deal of credit is given to the people of the city for fostering a friendly, if not competitive, sports environment.
