The Chicago News Sports Events Culture

The Chicago sports culture has earned the city multiple awards. Its most famous son, the Chicago Cubs, has won two Stanley Cups and has earned several nods in the past. Its fans are fervent and fierce. The sports industry generates over $600 million in revenue each year and employs more than 456,000 people in the Windy City. So how has the sport shaped the city’s identity, if that is a real thing? The sports media has grown from being a novelty to a bona fide industry.

The evolution of sports media has been accompanied by an explosion of new technology. The Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks have enjoyed a dynasty of sorts, and the Chicago Cubs are a proud heir to the baseball throne. And as a fan, I have to say that I am very much pleased to see my beloved team thriving. The sport has also played an important role in bringing fans together. So, while there is no way to quantify the amount of camaraderie built up, I will venture to say that sports has played a starring role in my city’s renaissance.

It would be foolish to dismiss the fact that the Chicago sports industry is a cornerstone of the city’s identity. The sport has provided a welcome boost to the economy while at the same time generating the best of the best sporting events. In 2010, the sports industry was the largest contributor to the city’s economy.
