During the last decade or so, Chicago has had some major sporting events. For example, the Blackhawks won two Stanley Cups in 2010. In addition, Chicago has been listed as the world’s best sports city for two years in a row.
Chicago sports fans are loyal and fierce. One of the newest trends in the Chicago sporting scene is a renaissance. The Chicago Cubs and Bears both landed in the top ten best teams in the league in 2011. The city also made it on a list of the best sports towns in the nation. In addition, the city earned some well-deserved awards. The Boston Bruins visited local children’s hospitals on Halloween.
The most notable of the bunch is the emergence of a new industry centered on the sports industry. As part of the larger globalization process, a sports oriented economy was born. In terms of economic impact, sports have been proven to create 456,000 jobs in 2013, and to a lesser extent, stimulate local economies. A number of sports related initiatives have been introduced to address this growing problem, such as the Reach Out and Reinforce Respect program, the aforementioned swan.
In the spirit of the competition, transnational corporations have seized the opportunity to spiff up their product offerings in a bid to win over the masses. This may well have a pronounced effect on Western power. The good news is that it has been shown that sports can foster social cohesion and bring the community together, while also promoting healthy living.
