Whether you’re a fan of basketball, football, baseball, or ice hockey, Chicago is a sports town. And its sports culture has been recognized as one of the top three in the country. It’s also the home of several notable amateur sports teams, including the Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks.
Sporting events are a great way to infuse passion, and the City of Chicago is no exception. There are a number of teams and sports to choose from, from the minor leagues to the majors.
Some of the most prestigious sporting events in the world take place in Chicago. The World Series, the NBA playoffs, and the NFL playoffs are all hosted here. The Chicago Cubs and White Sox each generate more than $500 million for the Illinois economy. The Cubs also fund many youth athletic programs.
Aside from being a good way to bring people together, sports can help communities and nations. According to research, sports are responsible for generating over $340 million in revenue and generating 456,000 jobs in Chicago in 2010. It’s a good thing, too.
It’s been said that the Chicago sports culture is evidence of the city’s renaissance. Whether you’re a sports fan or not, you can’t help but appreciate the way that the Cubs and the Blackhawks have played a role in putting the Windy City on the map. And the fact that the Bears are at the top of their game is a testament to the fact that Chicago has a passionate and loyal fan base.
