Among the many sports cities in the US, Chicago is the sports capital of the Midwest. It is home to several major professional and amateur sports teams including the Chicago Bears of the NFL, the Chicago Cubs of Major League Baseball, and the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL. Aside from sports, Chicago is also home to the largest city in Illinois, with a population of about 3 million residents. While the city is known for its culinary delights, its sporting prowess is also a draw for sports fans.
For instance, Chicago is the site of the most expensive sports game in the world, and has won at least one major championship in the NFL, NHL, and MLB over the years. Also, in 2012, Chicago was ranked the best sports town in the country, and in 2011, the city was rated the best city in the state.
Chicago sports teams also generate millions of dollars in state tax revenues each year. In addition, some of these teams have been able to provide a significant contribution to local athletic programs, which can be used to fund kids’ sports activities. In fact, the Chicago Bears have been in the NFL for more than 100 years.
Other notable sports related achievements include the city’s inclusion on TSE’s list of the world’s top sports towns for two years in a row. The city also boasts an annual Sports Business Awards competition that honors sports teams and businesses that make a difference in the local community.
