Sports Events Culture in the Chicago Area

Sports in the Chicago area have long been a staple. From the NFL’s Bears to the WNBA’s Chicago Mercurys, the city has been home to numerous professional teams over the years. In fact, this is one of the top sports markets in the country.

As a matter of fact, the city has won the coveted title of Best Sports City at least twice over the last ten years. It isn’t all about the games though. For instance, the Boston Bruins visited local children’s hospitals on Halloween. And the Chicago Bulls held a slew of titles during the 90s, including an NBA championship and a Stanley Cup. And the Cubs have provided a good chunk of funding to local athletic programs.

Despite the fact that the Chicago Bulls haven’t been able to snag a title for quite some time, there’s no denying that the city has a great sports culture. The aforementioned “Best Sports City” award is just the latest in a long line of accolades for the Windy City. And, judging by attendance at events like the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, it’s safe to say that there are plenty of loyal fans in the Windy City.

The best thing about the city’s sports culture is that it isn’t restricted to the traditional four season sports like baseball, football, and hockey. The city has a healthy sprinkling of recreational sports, too, from racquetball to bowling. In the grand scheme of things, these sports help to generate over $600 million a year for the state of Illinois.
