Discovering Chicago’s Sports Events Culture
As one of the world’s premier sports towns, it’s no surprise that Chicago is a hub for sports enthusiasts. This city has hosted several major sporting events in the past and continues to make waves on the national and international stage. For example, it was crowned as the sports capital of the world for two consecutive years and won the Best Sports City award for the second year in a row. Its sporting prowess has also helped boost the local economy. Aside from generating thousands of jobs, these sporting events serve as an avenue for youth to get active, as well as contributing to a healthy local economy.
Throughout its history, the city has been lauded for its impressive renaissance, which is reflected in its booming sports culture. As such, the city has won a number of awards for the sport’s ilk, including the Best Sports City award for the second year running and was named the most cosmopolitan sports town in the country. This renaissance, in addition to the usual perks, has spawned an array of sports fanatics, many of whom are devoted to their favorite team, be it the Chicago Bulls, the Cubs or the Bears. Having said that, there is no denying that a lot of the craze has bred some serious egos. For instance, Jay Cutler’s jersey-burning incident, which was not only a major media event, but a viral sensation, did not dampen attendance.
Despite the numerous accolades, the best place to start in exploring this city’s sports culture is its renaissance. If you’re in town for a sporting event, you’ll want to check in with the venue to ensure there’s no last minute cancellation.
