During the Great Lakes era, Chicago had a few nifty things to its name. The most notable of these is the Chicago Loop, a self-selected urban core area with an estimated population of about 3 million. Not surprisingly, this is where the sports, tech and arts communities converge. Consequently, the city boasts a slew of cultural epicenters, such as the Museum of Science and Industry, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Field Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Field Library. And, of course, the aforementioned sports venues. To round out the list, the city also has a host of parks and greenspaces. In short, the city is a conglomeration of cultures and geographies, akin to the fabled Grand Central Terminal and the like. Hence, it is not surprising that the city has a reputation as a genteel, albeit snobbish, urban center.

It’s no secret that many of the city’s inhabitants are sporting fanatics. Moreover, this is where the city’s economic heft is parlayed. The aforementioned sports enterprises have sunk millions into local initiatives, from youth athletic programs to corporate wellness programs.
