Among the largest and most diverse cities in the United States, Chicago has a rich sports culture. There are many amateur and professional sports teams throughout the Windy City. The Chicago Cubs are a storied sports franchise. They have had a number of notable moments over the years, such as winning the World Series in 1915. In 2010, the NHL’s Blackhawks won two Stanley Cups.

Sports are a big deal in Windy City, with the aforementioned Cubs and Blackhawks, and several other professional teams. In 2010, sports helped boost the local economy by $340 million. The Chicago Bears made their first Super Bowl appearance in 1985, albeit in a different incarnation. Despite this, the Bears have yet to notch the biggest win of their history making run.

While the Chicago Cubs have been around for quite some time, the newest entrant to the sports arena, the Chicago Bulls, has garnered attention. Its recent playoff run has fans and media alike buzzing. The team has also made a splash in the sports community with a well branded marketing campaign. The Chicago Bulls are the newest sports franchise to call Chicago home, and they certainly have their perks. Some of the more notable perks include funding athletic programs and scholarships, and ongoing partnerships with the Chicago White Sox.

For a city of just over 3 million people, it is no surprise that sports are a big deal. Sports also promote good ol’ fashioned community engagement. While the Chicago Bears haven’t had a winning season in over a decade, the Chicago Bulls have racked up plenty of wins and losses in the past. For a city with so many professional sports teams to choose from, it is no surprise that many Chicagoans enjoy a little friendly competition.
