Chicago News Sports Events Culture
Having been dubbed as the sports capital of the Midwest, Chicago has many reasons to be proud of their sports culture. Not only do they have an impressive professional sports scene, but the amateur teams also have a great deal of spirit and money to spare. The city is home to the NBA’s Chicago Bulls and NHL’s Blackhawks. Their success in these leagues is legendary, and their fans have never ceased to support their teams.
Chicago has been named the best sports city in the country three times by Sporting News. While the city’s sports teams have had their ups and downs over the years, they still have a great deal of history. The Blackhawks have won two Stanley Cups in 2010 and 2013. The Bulls have been a major force in basketball over the years, and Michael ‘Air’ Jordan led them to two championships during his time with the team.
There are many ways that sports help communities, and they can also raise awareness on important issues. In 2013, sports generated 456,000 jobs in Illinois. They also help to boost local economies, and they generate money for worthwhile causes. In addition, they generate a lot of joy and raw emotion. They are also great ways to teach kids about respect. This year, the Northwestern athletic department launched an anti-bullying campaign called Reach Out and Reinforce Respect. This program is run by student athletes and is designed to teach young athletes respect, and to help them become better role models.
