With more than 3 million residents, Chicago is no doubt the sports capital of the country. In fact, the city has earned several prestigious awards and has been recognized as one of the top sport cities in the world.
As with any other American metropolis, sports can be a drag on the pocketbook. There are a number of reasons for this, including but not limited to a lack of funding for state athletic programs, poor facilities and an aging population. However, these afflictions have been mitigated in recent years thanks in large part to the nascent sports fanatic demographic. So what’s the sports news for the sports fanatic in your life? Fortunately, there are numerous ways to ring in a successful sporting season. Whether you’re rooting for the Bears, White Sox, Cubs or Blackhawks, there’s a game for you.
The most exciting sporting event of all is watching your favorite team win the penultimate game of the season. Although this may not be the most pleasurable experience, it does offer the most memorable memories. For example, it was during a road game that my husband and I stumbled upon the most important person in our lives, a sweet sixteen year old. This sparked the start of a long and happy relationship.
Obviously, the best way to ensure you don’t squander your hard-earned dollar is to shop around. In the Chicago area, sports fans can rely on such local institutions as the United States Figure Skating Association and the American Legion, as well as a plethora of renowned professional teams, for the next time they need to bet the farm.
