During the twentieth century, the world witnessed the birth of a transnational cosmopolitan culture, the development of a global economy, and the emergence of international social movements. Sports also played an important role in this process, as it brought fans together. Modern sports are now marketed as symbols of prestige, power, and pleasure. The marketing of these modern sports has become an integral part of the larger globalization process.
Chicago is home to a number of major sporting events, such as the National Basketball Association (NBA) playoffs, the NFL playoffs, and the CFL playoffs. In addition, the city is home to a wide variety of amateur sports teams, some of which have been around for decades and have earned national recognition. Those teams include baseball, basketball, ice hockey, table tennis, flag football, volleyball, and lacrosse.
In recent years, the city has been recognized for its sports culture, receiving awards and placements on a variety of lists. Among these awards, Chicago was recently named to the list of the top sports towns in the world by TSE. In 2009, the city hosted the World Series, which is a professional baseball tournament between two Major League teams. The city has been in the top 20 of TSE’s list of the world’s best sports towns for two consecutive years.
The Chicago Cubs have been responsible for funding athletic programs for many Chicago children and teens. The team also provides funding for the Jr. Bears and Nerf football programs, which prepare kids for high school football.
