Regardless of whether or not you’re a sports fanatic, Chicago has plenty of sports teams and events to entertain you, including the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL, and the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago White Sox in baseball. Moreover, the city is home to several amateur sports teams, some of which have made it onto the national stage.
The Chicago Cubs have a pretty good claim to fame, not just for their ability to produce the best baseball, but also for their charitable contributions to local athletic programs. Not surprisingly, they generate millions in state tax revenues each year.
The city also has several other professional sports teams, including the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, and the Chicago Blackhawks, all of which play to sold out crowds. The Chicago Bulls, in particular, boast a storied history, with Michael ‘Air’ Jordan leading the charge in the late 80s and early 90s. In the meantime, the Bulls have been plagued with recent adversity. In recent years, they have had a difficult time matching their record setting 87-win season, a trend that’s likely to continue as they are in the thick of the playoff race.
In addition to these storied franchises, Chicago is home to several amateur sports teams, some whose names have been around for decades. The city is also home to the aforementioned best baseball team, and the Chicago Blackhawks have won two Stanley Cups in the last two years.
