Chicago’s Sports Events Culture

Whether you are a fan of sports or not, it is impossible to ignore the fact that Chicago has a thriving sports culture. This is evidenced by the number of award-winning amateur sports teams that are based in the city. Not to mention the many professional sports teams that call Chicago home.

Some of these sports include baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey, swimming, tennis and more. Some of these amateur sports teams have even made it to the national stage. There are also major sporting events held in Chicago, including the World Series, the NFL playoffs, and the CFL playoffs. These events help to bring communities together and encourage kids to get active. They also have a positive effect on the economy, generating 456,000 jobs in 2013.

Among the most popular amateur sports teams in the city are the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. Both of these teams provide funding for athletic programs in the area. The Cubs have been consistently successful in recent years, winning the championship in 2010 and 2012. The Bears have won the Super Bowl once, in 1985, but haven’t done so in the past few years.

The Chicago Blackhawks are an NHL team that has made a lot of noise in the past few years. The team was named the best sports city in the country in 2010, and won the Stanley Cup in 2013. In addition to the professional teams, Chicago has a plethora of amateur sports teams.
