Considering its population of nearly three million, you can’t help but be impressed at how many sporting events are scheduled in the Windy City. As a matter of fact, Chicago is home to one of the four cities in the United States with teams in all five major professional sports. That’s one heck of a lot of money to be made, and fans aren’t shy about expressing their opinions.

Not surprisingly, the city has also received a fair share of awards for its sports prowess. Aside from the aforementioned Cubs, Chicago has a number of minor league baseball teams as well as the storied Blackhawks NHL franchise. The aforementioned teams provide funding for local athletic programs, while the Cubs, aforementioned, generate $600 million annually for Illinois.

It’s no surprise that the city has been ranked on numerous lists, from best sports town to best city for sports enthusiasts to most sports savvy. This may be the case, but the fact remains that sports fans are a loyal bunch and are likely to stick by a team regardless of how bad the outcome.

In the past few years, the city has seen its share of highs and lows, but the sports biz continues to flourish. In fact, Chicago’s sports industry boasts a whopping 456,000 jobs, and sports are a large part of the economy. The town has an active sports fan base, and many citizens have expressed their concerns regarding the proposed Bally’s casino in downtown.
