Sports Events Culture in Chicago
Among the many things Chicago does right, one of the most impressive is its sports culture. The city has teams in all five major professional sports, and a storied NHL franchise to boot. In fact, Chicago has one of the best sports communities in the country, and its fans are as tight as a dry stick.
It’s not surprising that sports have a positive effect on the local economy. The Chicago Cubs generate $600 million a year in revenues for the state of Illinois. And the Chicago Bulls ruled the basketball scene in the 1990s. Not to mention the NBA and MLB teams in town.
One of the most exciting things about sports is the level of community involvement. Fans of the game have always been vocal about their favorite team’s prowess, and the fact that the Bears haven’t made a Super Bowl in a decade doesn’t dampen the spirits of those who love their team. Sports fans will go to a game if it’s on the schedule, no matter what the scoreboard reads.
Several amateur sports teams have made the proverbial big time, proving that sports aren’t all about the big leagues. It’s not uncommon for a local team to make a trip to the hospital to cheer up a patient.
Seeing as the city’s population is estimated at nearly three million, the sports o mologies are not hard to find. For a city this size, it’s a testament to the city’s renaissance.
