Whether you are a fan of baseball, football or hockey, Chicago has something for your taste. With one of the largest populations in the country, it’s not surprising that fans are some of the most passionate around. The city is also home to an array of amateur sports teams, some of which have made it onto the national stage.
Probably the most impressive feat is a recent effort by the athletic department at Northwestern to promote sportsmanship amongst the student athletes. The school has launched a new initiative dubbed the Reach Out and Reinforce Respect program. This is a program aimed at educating young athletes about respect and sportsmanship, while encouraging them to make the most of their athletic abilities.
Despite the fact that the Bears are a disappointing 2-12 this season, the city is still the proud host of the NBA’s best players and some of the best high school athletes in the country. While the storied Bears have not been able to make it to the Super Bowl since 1985, they have been in the top of their respective divisions for years.
Aside from the Bears, Chicago also boasts several major sports teams. These include the NBA’s Chicago Bulls, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls, and the Chicago Bears. With a population of just over three million, it’s no wonder that sports have become a significant economic contributor to the state. In fact, it has been estimated that Chicago generates a hefty $600 million in annual revenue for the state of Illinois.
