Sports Events Culture in the Windy City
Whether you love the Bears or the Blackhawks, there are plenty of sporting events to keep you busy in Chicago. From professional basketball to hockey, soccer to American football, there are a variety of sports to enjoy in the Windy City.
Sports aren’t just fun and exciting; they can also make a positive impact on communities and nations. Major sporting events can promote kids to get active and participate in sports, while helping to raise money for a variety of charitable causes. They can also help boost local economies. In 2010, sports in New York City generated $340 million in local economies and created 456,000 jobs.
Chicago is home to numerous amateur sports teams. Some of these teams have even made national headlines. The Chicago Bulls dominated basketball in the 90s, while the Blackhawks took home the Stanley Cup in 2010. There are also a variety of youth athletic programs to engage children in sports, including Nerf football. These programs give kids a chance to learn and prepare for high school football.
Sports have also brought fans together, bringing a sense of community and passion to the city. Fans attend games regardless of the performance of their team. For instance, last season, a video of Jay Cutler burning his jersey went viral, but the attendance didn’t drop. Despite a disappointing start to the 2014 season, the Bears are still considered to be the best team in the Chicago area.
Chicago’s sports culture is not only worthy of recognition, it’s also a testament to the city’s renaissance.
