It’s no wonder Chicago’s sports fans are so passionate and loyal. They are devoted to their favorite teams, the Cubs and Bears. These sports generate a staggering $600 million for the Illinois economy annually.
The impact that sports have on the Chicago economy and society are truly astounding. According to a recent study, sports create a number of positive effects for communities. Sports help kids get active, raise awareness about important issues, and generate money for charities and other worthy causes. They also create passion and joy. For example, the Boston Bruins visited a local children’s hospital on Halloween to cheer up sick patients. The players dressed as characters from the Disney movie Frozen. In addition, the athletic department of Northwestern launched a program called Reach Out and Reinforce Respect. This program aims to prevent bullying and teach respect to children. The program is run by student athletes and the athletic department’s community relations team.
