Despite its storied sports teams, Chicago has not yet won a Super Bowl or an NBA championship. However, it has amassed a slew of awards and accolades – most recently, Sporting News crowned it the best sports city in the country.
The city boasts a plethora of professional and amateur sports teams, including the NHL’s Blackhawks, the NCAA’s Chicago Bulls, and the Chicago Cubs minor league affiliates. The city is also home to numerous parks and public spaces that make for excellent family outings. In addition, its transportation infrastructure is world class, allowing it to be a destination in itself. Moreover, the city has earned a cult-like following – it’s become the unofficial home of the sports fanatics.
It’s no surprise then that Chicago has been dubbed the sports capital of the Midwest. With the NHL’s Blackhawks winning two Stanley Cups in 2010, and the MLB’s Cubs and Bears each making the playoffs, Chicago is well-positioned to claim its rightful spot on the sports map. In fact, sports generate more than $600 million for the state of Illinois each year, boosting local economies and creating 456,000 jobs in the process. In addition, the city has earned numerous awards and accolades, including being crowned the sports capital of the Midwest.
